I’ve been writing new scripts recently, mostly simple UI-less tools that do what they’re called, like show guide layers.jsx and remove disabled effects.jsx. There’s now a decent collection, and I’m adding new ones all the time. So rather than having to download them separately I’ve packaged all the ready-for release ones into a single zip … Continue reading All the scripts
…or at least a content-centric anchor point on a shape layer. I don’t like the way After Effects does shape layers. There, I’ve said it. Here’s my attempt to make things better.
A tool for removing unwanted Bézier handles on keyframes. This is a useful tool that’s included in my scripts bundle, but which I haven’t explained on this blog. It converts spatial keyframes from Bézier to linear, but unlike alt-clicking with the pen tool it allows you to choose to convert the in or out handle, … Continue reading Zap Spatial Tangents
As described in this tutorial, aiming lights can be easier if you can see “through” the light using a camera duct-taped on to it. Commonly found in 3D apps, the light-view option is sadly lacking in After Effects. Well here’s a script to do the duct-taping for you.
This script removes disabled effects from layers in your comp. While disabled effects don’t do anything, they mess up the workspace, create confusion, increase the size of the project file and can cause problems if you’re sharing the project to machines that don’t have the effects.
A nifty powershell timer module. I use Powershell for setting up renders a lot. And often I want to give something time to render, then compress it, send it to the internets, shut down the workstation, whatever. I used to use the Start-Sleep commandlet (Sleep to its friends), but because I like complicating things here’s … Continue reading Nanananana—Count-down!
Here’s a simple script that will remove a gap in an After Effects timeline, ripple editing all the layers after it. To use it, place the playhead in a gap — part of the timeline that has no active layers — and run the script. Layers that start after the gap get nudged up so … Continue reading Remove the gaps in AE comps
Seems that there’s a bit of a gotcha when using powershell as an elevated user: any mapped network drives won’t be available, unless you explicitly connect them
Recently I had a problem with Explorer on Windows 10. Opening a file browser in This PC would slow it to a crawl. Other folders worked fine, it was just This PC that would never load, ever.
I spent most of my day installing open-source hardware in my 3D printer. Have I achieved Peak Nerd? Anyway, here’s some information about connecting the RAMPS board to the ribbon cable that goes to the hotend of a Wanhao i3+ aka Cocoon Create, also known as the printer that Aldi was selling a few weeks … Continue reading Peak Nerd!
